How do I download Instagram stories anonymously?

Sometimes I want to save someone's story from Instagram without them knowing. I don't want to use shady apps or screen recording. Is there a way to download stories anonymously without signing in?

Rediscovering this topic and thought I’d add something: a lot of people now use simple browser-based viewers where you paste the profile URL and watch stories without logging in.
